Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education

Picture
People often ask me the difference between Physical Therapy and Feldenkrais. As a PT, I would answer that question eloquently. As a Feldenkrais teacher, I would ask you to close your eyes and sense the contact you are making with the chair - which sitz-bone makes fuller contact? Left or Right? As you look down, does your contact move back or forwards? as you look up does this change? If you breathe out as you look down, is it easier to shorten the front of you? try breathing in as you look down to compare. Breathe in as you look up, then out as you look up, which one makes it easier to lengthen the front of you? How is your contact with the chair now?
(This is an example of a mini-Awareness Through Movement lesson. The hands on work is known as Functional Integration.)

"The aim is a person who is organized to move with minimum effort and maximum efficiency, not through muscular strength, but through increased consciousness of how movement works."
