Moshe Feldenkrais

Moshe Feldenkrais (1904-1984) is world renowned for the system of body-awareness and exercises he developed during his lifetime. Moshe Feldenkrais studied engineering and went on to receive his doctorate in physics from the Sorbonne. While in Paris, he was attached to the lab of Joliot-Curie (Nobel Prize winner) and gained his Judo black belt with help from Professor Kano (creator of Judo). Over a period of 40 years, he synthesized his learning into a method of somatic education which facilitates each student’s ability to act efficiently and effectively.

Getting Started: Moshe Feldenkrais wrote several books. I recommend 'Awareness Through Movement' which offers a practical guide to the Method, as a starting point for exploration. Ask for it at your local library or book store. Go to an ATM (Awareness Through Movement) class, or set up a Functional Integration lesson to experience first hand the benefits of attending to your sensori-motor learning. As always, if you have a recent injury, chronic pain or a joint replacement, inform the practitioner. You will be encouraged to move slowly and explore within your limits.
